Easton, MD, March 8, 2015 – In an effort to raise awareness and encourage the engagement of patients, families, health care providers, and the public, Quality Health Strategies and its subsidiaries announced today their participation in the 2015 Patient Safety Awareness Week campaign, United in Safety.
Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 8-14, 2015, is an annual education and awareness campaign for health care safety led by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF). Each year, health care organizations around the world take part in the event, creating awareness in their community and among their staff.
This year’s theme, United in Safety, highlights the importance of the relationship between providers and patients and their families. Enhanced communication begins with an informed and engaged patient and helps to lead to safer care. Everyone in the health care process plays a role in delivering safe care and by uniting together and sharing that common goal we can make a difference in patient safety.
Although we are using this week in March to celebrate patient safety achievements and increase awareness, safe care should be your organization’s focus, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, and 365-days a year.
As part of our ongoing commitment to patient safety and quality care, each year Delmarva Foundation, a Quality Health Strategies subsidiary, recognizes individual hospitals in Maryland and the District of Columbia that excel in patient safety and quality improvement. The Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award for Quality Improvement is awarded to qualified hospitals the meet specific performance in six national inpatient clinical areas – Heart Failure, Surgical Care Improvement, Pneumonia, Venous Thromboembolism Prophylaxis, Hospital Acquired Infections, and Immunization.
Delmarva Foundation engages staff, patients, and the community through educational and awareness-building activities specific to patient safety science and practice.

"In order to succeed in improving health care safety and quality, the patient and patient’s family and/or caregivers must be informed, engaged partners in the health care process. In addition, patients and families must be self-advocates. It is also critically important for patients and families to “speak up” and inform health care providers of any financial, social, cultural or other barriers to receiving the recommended care."
